About Demi Orang Kecik

Demi Orang Kecik is a fanzine consist of 56 illustrations and 3 short comics from 20 artists about the indie game No Straight Roads

Where is Malaysia?

Malaysia, located in Southeast Asia, is a fascinating country comprised of two noncontiguous areas which are mostly part of larger islands and separated by about 640 kilometers of the South China Sea. Altogether, Malaysia is roughly 128,000 square kilometers.

The reason behind the fanzine

No Straight roads was a game specially made by a homegrown indie company, Metronomik Sdn Bhd and throughout the pandemic, the release of the game was a global success. As Metronomik’s first game, it helped us through our darkest times, fond memories and bought people together as a community. However, to us Malaysians, seeing ourselves in the game, the character’s charmful portrayal, it gives off a good essence to players around the world. They showed the world that our country might be smaller than any other, but we are bigger when we are united as one, as it deeply resonates us, no matter how far we go or where we are, we would always remember and be proud of our roots. As the game has it’s modern touch, they took a step forward in participation to preserve our local nuances, language and art form from being swallowed up by the tide of globalisation. Tradition doesn’t necessarily mean we are simply mired in our old ways but rather, in the immortal words of T.S. Elliot, “how the vitality of the past enriches
the life of the present.”
The idea of the zine was made by “accident” among the community but later on it comes into fruition. Metronomik implies the game is a love letter to our country Malaysia, and in return, this is our love letter to the game from us Malaysians and tourists. To end it here with a short poem :“ Walaupun hujan lebat,
DK West tetap hebat,
Malahpun hidup sampai mati,
Tetapi NSR tetap di hati”
